Healthy Homemade Chips & Salsa


Quick, easy and relatively healthy appetizers come in handy this month to bring to holiday festivities or just snack on at home. Check out our recipe for homemade chips and salsa: 

Ingredients: 

1/4 c. cilantro
1 clove of garlic
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp sea salt
1 tsp fresh lime juice
1/4 tomatoes
1/4 chopped red onions
1/4 chopped yellow or green onions
1 jalapeno
1/4 cup of green chilies
your favorite corn tortillas
4 tbsp vegetable oil

Salsa: 

In a food processor, combine all ingredients (except for vegetable oil and tortillas) and pulse until smooth but still chunky. Squeeze some lime juice over and put in the fridge. 

Chips: 

In a medium pan, heat up vegetable oil. Cut up tortillas into triangles (size is your preference). Very carefully, place triangles in oil and fry for a couple minutes on each side or until they start to turn golden brown. Remove from heat and let cool in a paper towel lined bowl to absorb excess oil. When frying in oil, be really careful not to splash oil onto your skin, it will burn. Sprinkle chips with salt to taste, serve with salsa and enjoy!
